Baby Dreaming...........

Looking back at my pictures from last year, I am reminded of how wonderful lambing time is. This is Blizzard at about 5 minutes old. It is amazing how strong the bond she and her mother have is. They sleep cuddled up together and are never more than one "baaa" apart. It is wonderful!

Like Mother ... Like Daughter

Look at this little cutie. This is Blizzard ( left ). She reminded me of a picture I took of her mother, Madeline, (above) two years ago. Blizzard was the first lamb born on our farm last spring ... of course I had to keep her! :)

Sledding

What kid doesn't like to sled? But how many sled in a paddock full of sheep? :)

Well my kids all sled on the ridge ...with the sheep. Yeah! Winter is here!

Ta-Daaaa!

Well, here it is!

Now look at the pictures in my last post and you'll see where my inspiration came from! Of course Millie is white, but I needed to break up the the colors a bit ... and I do have a brown Romney, Lucy.

Now I need to finish the trim and add the buttons on the front. I plan to add one of my Babydoll Southdowns and maybe Joe to the front panels.

Spring?

The temperature is 40 degrees. Has winter forgotten us? I keep looking at my shop ( which I closed in Dec for lack of heat ) and thinking I could be open. I have plenty of yarns and goodies for sale on my website, but I so love sharing my sheep with my customers and having them put a face on the yarns that they buy. Lambing is only three months away now. I cannot wait to watch those babies hopping around the paddock. Our new barn will be complete and new fences up in no time. I have missed the snow covered ridge, the frosted sheep, and the duck tracks in the snow. Ducks slide down hills in the winter you know ... I have seen them.

I took this shot of Mabel whose name means " a thing of beauty". Wouldn't you agree?

New Barn!

Santa brought me a barn for Christmas! My husband and I worked all Christmas day putting 14 posts in the ground. There is no frost in the ground and we are thankful! Whoda' thought we'd be digging holes on Dec 25th!
I raked, washed water buckets, trimmed wool around eyes, and did other various "springtime" chores on Christmas day. Of course I always go out to the paddock armed with my camera and I took this great picture of Lucy and her daughter Belle ... before I trimmed around Belle's eyes. :)

Also, here is a picture of the beautiful English Mastiff that we adopted. We are soooo blessed to have her. Matilda is one-year-old now, and the perfect guard/family dog. We are just in love with her. Don't ever be afraid to come and visit us, she will welcome you to our farm. What a sweetie.

As I am new to this "blogging thing" I am still learning how it all works. I discovered you ( my visitors) can subscribe to my updates by clicking on the "Subscribe to posts" button below. So please ... subscribe! :) I have been getting quite a few calls and e-mails from folks wanting to reserve lambs and this will be a good way for you to keep updated.

So far all pure registered Babydoll Southdown lambs are spoken for. But please consider a cross. I kept two of last year's lambs Belle ( pictured in my last post with snow on her face ) and Blizzard. Both have remained small and are sweet, friendly little girls. Belle's mom is a Romney and Blizzard's is a Correidale. Their dad is Joker my Olde Babydoll Southdown ram. They are showing attributes of both their parents fleeces ... NICE! 15 days till Christmas! We had our first snow Friday. It was beautiful. So peaceful in the paddock ... and quiet.

Time to Spin!

My shop is now closed for the winter months. Three baskets of roving sit waiting for me to spin them into soft, colorful yarns. I am looking forward to those winter months when time slows down just a bit.

A 3 & 1/2 pound bag of shiny mohair locks, sits beside my desk ... the fruit of my labor ... or should I say Uma's labor. Uma is my one Angora goat who provides me with a fabulous white, mohair fleece every 6 months.
Last year I blended Uma's fleece with Millie's, Romney, hogget ( first) fleece and won a Best in Show ribbon at the New Hampshire Sheep & Wool Festival as well as a ribbon at the Maine Fiber Frolic. Watch for this "Blue Ribbon Blend" in the spring.

In a few weeks I will begin selling yarns from my farm on-line ...stay tuned!

Holiday Open House

On November 24th & 25th we will hold our 1st Annual Holiday Open House. This year we will be holding a fund raiser for the Coastal Humane Society ... our local animal shelter. The hours are 9-6 both days. Please consider bringing a donation of dog and cat food as well as old towels, blankets and toys.

To celebrate a wonderful first year's opening, the Ye Olde Wool Shop will hold its 1st Annual Holiday Open House on November 24th & 25th.
Our 2007 We Fiber Folk Calendars will be available at a special Open House price, and shoppers will receive a free pattern for our favorite Shepherdess Wristletts with every yarn purchase.
As owners of "shelter dogs" ourselves, we will be collecting food and other needed goods to donate to the Coastal Humane Society. Please consider bringing canned foods, bleach & dish soap, and paper towels to donate to the shelter.
Our homemade dog biscuits, made with our own duck eggs, will be available to purchase for your canine companions or to donate to the shelter. All proceeds from the biscuit sales will also be donated to the shelter.

Welcome to our mid-coast Maine Sheep farm. Our diverse flock provides us with a wonderful variety of fibers for our hand and mill -spun yarns, and for one-of-a-kind batts and rovings for spinning.
Romneys, Correidales, a Border Leicester, a Suffolk, and Olde Babydoll Southdowns roam the woods on our 11 acre farm. They are joined by an Angora goat for mohair, and two Nigerian dwarf goats for ...well laughs.
